Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center was
founded by Dot & Sis Zerbe, Ann Zerbe [Good] and Curly Good in 1958.
This foursome was already well known locally as The Zerbe Sisters and
Curly, a popular music group which sang at church gatherings,
community fairs, and on a local radio show.

Initially, the Zerbe Sisters, all Licensed Practical Nurses, began
accepting residents at their farmhouse in Bowmansville, Pennsylvania.
However, demand for quality care and personal attention provided by
the Zerbe Sisters soon prompted them to expand. In 1961 this foursome purchased the current site, a 62-acre estate with two
elegant stone buildings from the late Dr. Walter Rigg. The Carriage
House, now called the Annex, was renovated to accommodate 13 residents
and the main house, known as the Mansion, housed 20 residents.
In 1973, two new nursing wings were built, and in 1978, another three
nursing wings were completed. As these new wings were added, spacious
lounges with beautiful stone fireplaces were built for the enjoyment
of the residents and their visitors. In 1997, an assisted living
residence, Harvest View, was added in order to respond to the changing
needs and expectations of older adults. Its connection to the
nursing center provides ready access to higher levels of care, while
its separate entrance, dining, lounge, and activity areas provide
independence and privacy for assisted living residents.
Dreams were realized with the expansion of Woodland Heights,
including Harvest View, Assisted Living and the Village, cottages,
apartments and Community Center. Now, together with Zerbe
Sisters Nursing Center, a unique retirement community
environment for people with a variety of interests and needs if
offered.
Family involvement remains a hallmark at Woodland Heights. Ann
Zerbe [Good] remains a vital part of decision making and Ann's niece,
Nancy Caffrey-Schafer, is the current president. A son,
Daniel C. Caffrey III, daughter, Danette Shelly, and son-in-law, Craig
Shelly are now also active in the business. A tradition of
family warmth and caring which has set the Zerbe Sisters apart from
the beginning continues even today. We would personally like to invite you to become
part of the Woodland Heights Community.
Clockwise from top: Nancy
Caffrey-Schafer, Helen Zerbe, Dottie Zerbe and Ann Zerbe Good.
